December - May

The sunny days and blue skies of Cuba’s dry season make this the best time to visit. Temperatures are hot but not too humid, and there is less chance of rainfall. Try outdoor activities such as hiking in the Sierra Maestra mountains, horse riding in Las Terrazas or snorkelling among sea turtles in the warm, limpid waters of the cayes. To visit during these months it’s important to plan far in advance, as hotels will be busy. Important events to lookout for include Havana’s International Jazz Festival in December, and the Semana Santa Easter processions in Trinidad.

June - November

This is the wet season in Cuba, though the heaviest rains do not set in until late July. Temperatures rise and humidity levels increase, with frequent rainfall and the risk of hurricanes from Aug - Nov. While the unpredictable weather conditions are not ideal for many outdoor activities, this can still be an atmospheric time to visit. Carnival in July (sometimes Aug) is celebrated across many of Cuba’s cities and towns, with traditional drumming rhythms, flamboyant costumes and buzzing parades. The largest and most traditional of these Carnival celebrations is found in Santiago de Cuba.
